Swim Top
I hate swimsuits. They never feel comfortable, the fabric is itchy, and the damn elastic is always in places where no elastic should go. I had to replace my busted strap swimsuit from the last, like, five years this summer, so I went to Target. I got a lovely burgundy top and nice black skirt, but the hateful top kept rolling up over my waist because I have a figure. So... why not crochet a top?
Initially I wanted a cotton top, but after querying around on the 'net I read a good point - cotton was gonna get heavy and droop. I changed my mind and got a couple skeins of Caron's Simply Soft in a dark blue.

It totally rocks!!! I based the top off a variety of online patterns, modifying the cups to fit me. I crocheted them together with a chain, which I then single stitched in, with a row of dc ch 2 dc to hold the tie. I also added a smaller tie on the cups by sc along the cup to 5 stitches from the bottom, chaining, and sc in the chain. Off the bottom, I did a modification of an edging from a book I got from the library.

The edging was labor intensive, involving sc, picots, chaining, joining, turning, more sc and picots. I modified it by leaving out the picots for the majority of it, except for the first and last row.
I'm totally pleased with it and I think I might make a few more quickie tops (with a different edging!!!) for pjs. Oh, and I'm totally planning swim shorts to replace that hateful skirt that tries to fall off.

Looks Awesome. Will you consider posting a pic of it on, or on a mannequin? I would like to see the fit.

looks like it's time to make Lila a pretty swimsuit.

Thanks! I did make Lila a little matching one for swim days, but it's currently lost at school. I will post a pic when it turns up. : )
