pouches
made these awesome pouches over the last month or so for my hooks n stuff. the green and yellow one holds all my Bates and bamboo hooks, and the purply one holds my stitch holders (which are actually cheep earring hoops), scissors, steel hooks, tapestry needles, and has a pouch on the outside that holds my little round tape measure. there's a plastic pocket protector inside that keeps the steel hooks and scissors from poking thru the yarn (i kid you not - Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, who provides lots of databases for work, sent the pocket protector to me as a promo thingie).

for the green one, here's what i did:
ch 5
working front loops only -
hdc in 2nd chain and in each ch across.
turning piece, hdc across in back loops.
hdc in 1st hdc and so on until a tube of desired length is aquired. (you can also join with a sl st and build in rows if you prefer)
flap -
ch 1, turn.
hdc across to one stitch past halfway, ch, turn. *hdc deacrease, hdc to last 2 st, hdc decrease* until desired size is met
button closure -
ch the appropriate length for the button (big button or little button?), join w/ sl st.
turn, sc along ch, join with sl st to flap and finish off.
for the purple one, i did the same thing as the green, but made my base chain the width of the pocket protector. i also edged the flap with a shell stitch, 3dc, skip next st, sc, 3dc
the pocket was easy.
mark the bag where the four corners of the pocket will be
*sc from marker to marker
join to bag with a sl st, ch 1, turn* repeat until the pocket is formed, finish off.
